  • Stancil Campbell — a Wilmington volunteer with Habitat for Humanity for 25 years — has led global build trips while serving as the Cape Fear warehouse manager. He enjoys connecting with new cultures and considers his colleagues family.  Wilmington Star-News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Photos from 1975 (the opening year of the main Oak Island Bridge) reflect the evolution of structures on Oak Island linking it to Brunswick County. Additional images capture changes to the G.V. Barbee and Swain's Cut bridges over decades.  Wilmington Star-News
  • Local musician Aidan Crofton now hosts live night shows at Crofton's Pretzels on Market Street, where his band Sea Graves and other local acts perform. The business moved in 2022 from Oleander Drive to a high-profile spot at 17th + Market Streets and also opened a Raleigh location.  Wilmington Star-News
  • Local musicians will perform after hours at Crofton's Pretzels, featuring the shop owner's rock band as a highlight. The event brings a lively rock atmosphere to Wilmington & offers fans an exciting evening out.  Wilmington Star-News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Community leaders and water officials met Saturday morning to discuss Fuquay-Varina’s plan to permanently remove millions of gallons from the Cape Fear River, a measure they warn could reduce local supplies (residents are urged to email the DEQ with their concerns by April 1).  FOX Wilmington

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Leaders met Saturday to oppose Fuquay-Varina’s proposed permanent water transfer from the Cape Fear River, which would remove millions of gallons of water (equivalent to 12 Olympic-sized pools per day) to meet local demand. Residents are urged to email the DEQ by April 1 to share their concerns.  WECT
  • The NCDOT built a new four-lane bridge on Oak Island to ease growing traffic from Wilmington’s expansion. The project began in 2006 and resulted in the Swain’s Cut Bridge, which replaced an older two-lane span and opened in 2010 (as archived local news).  Wilmington Star-News

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • DecorHint described Sunset Beach in Brunswick County as an overlooked coastal gem on Jan. 3 and noted its wide, protected sand and key spots like Bird Island Reserve and the Kindred Spirit Mailbox; visitors can reach the quiet spot an hour from Wilmington near the S.C. border.  Wilmington Star-News
