- ➤ TreeFest returns at the JCPenney atrium on January 16 and 17 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. — households may select up to five bare-root tree seedlings, donate $5, and should bring their own bags to cut plastic waste. WWAY

- ➤ Chick-fil-A will open its eighth Wilmington location at the corner of Carolina Beach Road and Shipyard Boulevard on Thursday, Jan. 8 — the new restaurant will offer free entrees for guests in cow accessories and donate $25,000 to local Feeding America partners while creating about 90 jobs. - ➤ Chick-fil-A Shipyard—operated by Bennett Goss—will open on Thursday at 604608 Shipyard Blvd offering a 'Cows Eat Free' deal for guests in cow spots. The launch includes a $25,000 donation to Feeding America and will create 90 local jobs. WWAY

- ➤ Former Van Halen lead singer David Lee Roth will perform his 'A Night with David Lee Roth' tour at Cape Fear Community College's Wilson Center on Tuesday, May 12 at 7 p.m. Tickets go on sale today at 10 a.m. for Wilson Center members + Friday at 10 a.m. for the general public. - ➤ The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher will begin a major multiyear expansion and renovation project in 2026 that will update its exhibits and facilities — an overhaul the aquarium has not seen in over 50 years. Wilmington Star-News

- ➤ Officials say Wilmington’s new Northchase Library, the county’s fifth branch, will finish construction late spring and hold its grand opening early summer. The nearly 20,000 sqft facility includes a teen media room, study rooms, a tween area and drive-up book drop — built by Monteith Construction for $9.378 million. FOX Wilmington
- ➤ New Northchase Library, New Hanover County’s fifth branch, is nearing completion at 4400 Northchase Parkway W and will open early summer. The 19,941 sqft facility includes a teen multimedia social room (with a gaming area) and a children's story-time pavilion, built by Monteith Construction for a $13 million project. WECT

- ➤ On Monday, Jan. 5, crews began restoring Kenan Fountain at Market and Fifth — work expected to finish by February's end — and today a section of Wrightsville Avenue between Audubon and 43rd will close from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for live oak pruning. WWAY
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A new detox center named STAR Center will open later in January at 1605 Robin Hood Road to offer medically assisted detox, crisis stabilization and transitional housing services; county commissioners approved a renovation contract for the 14,000 sqft facility operated by LINC and RHA Health. - ➤ New Hanover County will open its NHC Stabilization and Re-entry (STAR) Center at 1605 Robin Hood Road later this month to offer medically assisted detox, crisis stabilization and transitional housing services. Commissioners approved the renovation contract on Oct. 21. WECT
