- ➤ The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher will open 8,000 sqft Discovery Cove at Independence Mall as its main facility gets renovated; construction begins Monday, Jan. 12 and the space will offer animal encounters, marine habitats, education programs and a gift shop with full opening several months away. - ➤ Young Scientist Academy will host its third annual breakfast fundraiser on Jan. 31 at Waterline Brewing Company to support hands-on science education. Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. and student speakers will share how YSA programs build confidence + spark curiosity for future study. WECT
- ➤ The New Hanover County school board on Tuesday asked the state legislature to boost funding for exceptional children by lifting a $5,593 per-student cap, though Superintendent Barnes said the district faces broader funding challenges. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
