- ➤ Special Olympics of New Hanover County will host its 22nd annual Polar Plunge (at the Kure Beach Pavilion) on Saturday, Feb. 21 starting at 11 a.m. to raise $150,000 for its sports programs. WWAY
- ➤ New Hanover County Main Library opened its doors Monday at 230 Grace Street in downtown Wilmington following a ribbon cutting ceremony with county officials — work on the adjacent Cape Fear Museum continues with its opening set for summer. New Hanover County
- ➤ In the 1990s, Wilmington planners proposed an 850-acre mixed-use development along South 17th Street Extension that local Pine Valley residents opposed as overdevelopment & risked ruining neighborhood character. Today, the area is home to offices, housing, assisted living facilities, the Cameron Art Museum & the Pointe at Barclay shopping center. Wilmington Star-News
