- ➤ Zora’s Market and Kitchen will relaunch its full kitchen on Jan. 27 and has launched a free fish program to support food equity with two fish given per person weekly (while supplies last). The venue partners with UNCW’s aquaculture team and sources 99% local seafood. Port City Daily

- ➤ Wilmington offers a mix of historic centers, like Independence Mall, and modern venues such as Mayfaire Town Center that blend retail, dining and entertainment. - ➤ Fisk Jubilee Singers will perform at UNCW Kenan Auditorium on Friday, Feb. 20 at 7:30 p.m. — the event honors over 150 years of musical history and celebrates the traditions of Negro Spirituals. WECT
- ➤ This weekend, Wilmington hosts many events including Purlie Victorious at Thalian Hall starting Friday, free live music at Cape Fear Community Center Friday, a historic film screening and a family-friendly Fort Fisher commemoration Saturday, and art sessions plus concerts on Sunday—giving locals plenty of ways to enjoy the city. - ➤ North Carolina’s Department of Public Instruction plans to offer career-focused math classes for high school students that link lessons with real-world jobs + upperclassmen may choose paths like Applied Statistics and Data Science. - ➤ The Wilmington Housing Authority clarified plans to increase rents in 138 Creekwood apartments — new rates will be set at 40% of Area Median Income, charging about $975 for a 2-bedroom. Changes will roll out as leases are renewed this year while WHA works to offer income-based alternatives for tenants. FOX Wilmington
- ➤ WMPO launched its second round of the SS4A safety action plan outreach to improve road safety by asking for community feedback on draft project locations; feedback will be accepted through February via the WMPO website (a federal effort). WECT

- ➤ A study by the North Carolina Housing Coalition shows nearly 200,000 evictions were filed last year, a 31% rise since 2017, driven partly by the end of the Covid-19 moratorium and rising housing costs in Wilmington – local residents like Mary De Jesus faced eviction records and costly fees that add to ongoing affordability issues.
