  • Wilmington Convention Center donated 3,119 pounds of food last year to local nonprofits — benefiting groups like 86 Hungers Now, Good Shepherd, and Living HOPE as part of its food recovery efforts, and it plans to continue supporting these organizations.  WWAY
  • Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity will host its annual Golden Hammer Breakfast at Hotel Ballast on Friday, February 13 at 8 a.m. They will share updates and announce a transformative project while celebrating hope.  WWAY
  • WHQR Public Media in Wilmington received a $20,478 grant from The Cannon Foundation to replace its aging Audio Vault System and ensure reliable service. The funding supports a critical equipment upgrade for the station.  WWAY
  • Zora’s Market & Kitchen launched a free fish bank program offering black sea bass donated by UNCW Aquaculture to provide healthy food access+ anyone interested can sign up at the market on Wednesday, with fish available for pickup on Thursday and Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. supplies limited.  FOX Wilmington

  • Business owners will meet for a round table discussion at Carolina Beach Town Hall Council Chambers on January 28 at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.—the session will cover how to apply for funding from the Southern New Hanover County Small Business Impact Program.  WWAY

  • Downtown’s Public Archaeology Corps has moved thousands of artifacts into temporary storage at Steele Music Studios as it prepares to leave its donated Front Street lab by Feb. 2 — the group has reached out to city and county officials for help in finding a permanent home.  WWAY

  • Deputy Raeford Teachey received the 2026 David MacAlpine Award for youth mentorship & community service at the Conversation for Peace event at the MLK Center on Jan. 15. He served as a school resource officer and now mentors fellow deputies.  FOX Wilmington

  • Seabird's seafood market will debut a new menu on Jan. 28, while a bagel brand extends National Bagel Day with prize spins and a local pizzeria gains hidden gem status; an ethnic restaurant closed over a lease dispute and a new ice cream shop is coming.  Wilmington Star-News
  • Little Loaf Bakery & Schoolhouse in Wilmington was named one of the best cinnamon roll spots by The Takeout for its oversized, orange blossom–iced roll.   • A two-year-old Walker Hound named Slinky from Monty's Home is training at the Pender Correctional Center and will be adoptable once her basic commands training is complete. A meet and greet will be held on Jan. 25 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Monty's Home Thrift Shop in Burgaw.  WECT
