COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bitty & Beau's Coffee will mark its 10-year anniversary on Sunday, Jan. 25 from 1 to 4 p.m. at its flagship on New Centre Drive with live music, a DJ, and free coffee.  WWAY
  • Honor Flight of the Cape Fear Area asks community members to send letters+drawings for its 2026 Operation Mail Call honoring 85 local veterans. Mail must be received by March 20 and the group will fly to Washington, DC on April 18.  WWAY
  • The Mt. Calvary Center for Leadership Development is hosting a free Community Resource Fair tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at its Market Street office, where local organizations and the NCWorks Mobile Career Center will provide community services.  FOX Wilmington

CULTURE NEWS

  • Encore, a longtime local magazine, returns with a new issue and nonprofit mission. The relaunch event is set for Thursday, Jan. 29 at Thalian Hall—an evening featuring an issue unveiling, an auction, and awards recognition.  WWAY
  • A Proper Christmas is being filmed by UNCW Theatre grad Kristi Murdock in downtown Wilmington (including The Riverwalk and Southport’s ChristmasHouse) as a holiday romance exploring love and second chances. The film will premiere during the holiday season with original music and a local cast.  FOX Wilmington
  • On Jan. 19, over 100 people marched in downtown Wilmington at the MLK Day Parade. The event included local leaders, law enforcement, and community members (performers and pageant queens) as they honored Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  Wilmington Star-News
  • The Children’s Museum of Wilmington will host its first Sensory Sunday of 2026 on Feb. 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the museum — an event designed for children with sensory sensitivities offering fewer people, reduced light and sound, and calming spaces with free Power Packs and headphones.  WWAY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • WHA said no major rent hikes will affect the 138 low-income tax credit units at Creekwood after state vouchers were rediscovered, keeping rents at 30% of tenants' income rather than a flat rate. The agency will host town halls this month (with additional reviews planned) to explain the process to tenants.  WECT
  • County commissioners will vote Tuesday at 4 p.m. on a special-use permit to convert a 27.32-acre vacant site in Scotts Hill into an RV park with 89 pads, an office building, amenity building, pool, and parking – the proposal meets zoning and environmental requirements.  Port City Daily

HEALTH NEWS

  • Orangetheory Fitness offers a $2 per day membership deal with one free class for new members until Saturday, Jan. 31 — the science-backed workout program blends strength training and cardio to support local residents in reaching their New Year’s fitness goals.  Wilmington Star-News
