- ➤ The Tim Tebow Foundation will host Night to Shine, a prom for special needs individuals ages 14 and older, on Feb. 13 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Port City Community Church (Wilmington). Volunteers will serve as buddies during an event featuring dancing, food, karaoke, and games. WECT
- ➤ The Junior League of Wilmington launched a new Community Grant Program to award nonprofits up to $2,500 for service projects in the region. Applicants must submit proposals by 5 p.m. on Feb. 20 and winners will be notified on April 15. WECT
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Former Pinpoint chef Cameron Garvey started as executive chef at The Pilot House on Jan. 12 and brought his team from Pinpoint, with a new locally sourced menu to debut by March. The historic restaurant looks to enhance its riverfront dining experience using local ingredients + a strong team culture. Port City Daily
- ➤ Avelo Airlines announced its Wilmington International Airport schedule will extend through August 18, offering one-way fares starting at $47 with service to five destinations (including Nashville, New Haven, Philadelphia, Tampa and Washington/Baltimore) to help travelers plan summer trips. WWAY
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Wilmington Yoga is restarting its Kids Yoga Summer Camp after a one-year hiatus. The camp offers yoga, a healthy snack, games, and crafts for children (ages 7 to 11) and runs daily from 2 to 5 p.m. from July 6 to July 9 at Wilmington, costing $275 per child. WWAY
- ➤ Cape Fear Community College is partnering with Honey Head Films to offer an eight-week screenwriting course taught by Erika Arlee. The course will run from March 16 to May 4, meeting every Monday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the production office. WWAY
- ➤ KidStrong will open a new science-based training center for kids at Mayfaire Town Center on Parker Farm Drive, Suite 145. Local families can join weekly classes designed to build physical skills + leadership. WWAY
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Federal agencies and the NC Coastal Federation will remove 12 abandoned vessels from coastal waterways across New Hanover, Hyde, Carteret, and Onslow counties (supported by the BoatUS Foundation and NOAA) to restore local fishing communities. WECT
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Wrightsville Beach's Commodore Club, docked at the marina since 2020, is under fire for charging a $100 fee for public access at its first-floor restaurant. Town officials (including Mayor Ken Dull) say the fee does not meet the special-use permit conditions approved years ago. Port City Daily
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Recent census data showed that a child born in Woodberry Forest and Whisper Creek was expected to live 85.8 years, while one born near Portia Mills Hines Park was expected to live just 68.4 years. The findings highlighted a significant gap in local life expectancy. Wilmington Star-News
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ The Brunswick County Association of Realtors (BCAR) reported that the top 10 most expensive home sales in 2025 occurred in Bald Head Island and Ocean Isle Beach. The record sale was a $6.4 million property (the highest) while all top sales exceeded $3.6 million. Wilmington Star-News
