- ➤ Crews near finishing $1.9M improvements at Olsen Park near Laney High School + the new multiuse path and four pickleball courts may open by month-end, while fenced fields will be ready in spring. Wilmington Star-News
- ➤ The Children’s Museum of Wilmington will host Pizza Putt on Friday, Feb. 6, from 6 to 9 p.m. for adults (21 and over). The mini golf fundraiser will feature Domino’s pizza, a beer garden with 15 local breweries, and competitions to support its educational programming. WWAY

- ➤ Cape Fear Community College will host a FAFSA form help session on January 29 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at its North Campus NA Building room 304 & trained staff will guide participants through the form while advising parents to create a FAFSA ID 72 hours before the event. WWAY
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue Rehabilitation Center in Surf City is asking for 60CC and 20CC Luer Lock Syringes and reptile heat packs to treat sea turtles during cold stun season, with supporters encouraged to donate through its Amazon Wishlist. WWAY
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Wilmington Terminal Railroad will receive $627,000 for rail and switch improvements in New Hanover County as part of a $16.3 million NCDOT investment that will upgrade over 95 miles of track and eight bridges and culverts statewide. WECT
- ➤ Emergency water main repair took place on Thursday on Oleander Drive as crews closed the inner westbound lane and shifted traffic to a single outer lane while a boil water advisory affected about 200 customers in nearby areas. FOX Wilmington
- ➤ A lane in the 2900 block of Oleander Drive is closed for emergency water repair, with work expected to last 8 hours. Cape Fear Public Utility Authority issued a boil water advisory affecting about 200 customers along parts of Oleander Drive, Live Oak Parkway, Mayfair Drive and Hawthorne Road. WWAY
- ➤ On Thursday morning, Cape Fear Public Utility Authority closed the inner westbound lane on Oleander Drive for an eight-hour emergency water main repair, and a boil water advisory affected roughly 200 customers (addresses include from 2805 to 3208 Oleander Drive). WECT
- ➤ Gov. Josh Stein declared a state-of-emergency ahead of a winter storm expected to impact coastal and inland areas over the weekend, urging residents to prepare for power outages, icy roads, and hazardous travel. NCDOT crews have pre-treated roads with brine - 800,000 gallons already used. FOX Wilmington
