- ➤ Brunswick County remains North Carolina's fastest-growing region with a 24% population increase from April 2020 to July 2024; it comprises 19 municipalities including Leland (33,065 residents) and coastal towns like Bald Head Island and Ocean Isle Beach that see summer visitor surges. - ➤ Atiba Johnson, founder of the Wilmington Minority Chamber of Commerce, is launching the group to help minority business owners access startup funds and vital resources. The celebration is held today (5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Wilmington Sportsman Club). WWAY
- ➤ Avelo Airlines cancelled its return flight from Punta Cana last Thursday because of a winter storm + air traffic restrictions, leaving many passengers stranded. Levi Boyd had to take an American Airlines flight back to Wilmington Monday evening. WWAY
- ➤ Port City Cheesesteak, a downtown favorite at 21 N. Front St., will close on Jan. 31 after serving the community for over 10 years; the owners have hinted a new concept will soon take its place. Wilmington Star-News

- ➤ Tickets are on sale for Design NC 2026 at the Cameron Art Museum from Thursday, Apr. 30 to Friday, May 1. The multi-day celebration will feature a courtyard party, design forum, and sessions with renowned designers + artisans, with proceeds supporting exhibitions and public programs. WECT
- ➤ Grammy Award-winning singer Judy Collins will perform live with the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra at the Wilson Center at Cape Fear Community College on Saturday, May 16 at 7:30 p.m. (Tickets will be available online for members on Wednesday, Jan. 28 and the public on Thursday, Jan. 29). - ➤ The North Carolina Forest Service will burn about 30 acres at Halyburton Park nature preserve between January and early March to aid longleaf pine and wiregrass growth, part of a project funded by a 2024 Longleaf Stewardship grant & designed to lessen future wildfire risks. WECT
