COMMUNITY NEWS

  • StarNews readers shared photos showing heavy snowfall across Cape Fear communities on Feb. 1, including Love Grove, Sunset Beach, and Hampstead where a resident (Laura Reynaud) recorded 10 inches of snow.  Wilmington Star-News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Country singer Ella Langley announced her 16-stop ‘The Dandelion Tour’ with a Wilmington show at Live Oak Bank Pavilion on June 26—tickets are available via presale Feb. 5 and to the public Feb. 6, while her upcoming album Dandelion is set for release April 10.  Port City Daily
  • Country music artist Ella Langley will perform on June 26 at Live Oak Bank Pavilion at Riverfront Park as part of her newly announced arena tour, The Dandelion Tour (tickets go on sale Feb. 6 with presale starting Feb. 5).  WWAY

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • After two winter storms and a month of below-normal temperatures, Wilmington residents are still feeling the cold. Forecasters say a collapsing polar vortex and La Niña will push frigid weather into mid-February and a gradual warm-up may come in March.  Wilmington Star-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A weekend winter storm left many Wilmington schools, government offices, and community centers closed or on remote schedules today as icy roads persist, and some institutions (UNC Wilmington and Brunswick Community College) continue their shutdown until conditions improve.  Wilmington Star-News
  • MLK Parkway will fully reopen by midday as crews work to fix off-ramps still affected by winter weather — police urge drivers to give repair teams space.  WWAY

HEALTH NEWS

  • Since Novant Health took over New Hanover Regional Medical Center five years ago, the provider invested $600 million + is now working to improve its two-star rating and C level safety grade. Additional initiatives will roll out soon to raise service standards in Wilmington.  Wilmington Star-News
  • Novant Health dedicated the Deloris P. Jordan Neurosciences Institute on Jan. 31, renaming the center after Deloris and celebrating a $10 million gift from Michael Jordan—an increase that supports expanded treatments and a new global partnership with the Kenya Women and Children’s Wellness Centre. The center saved over 1,000 stroke lives in its three-year history.  Port City Daily
