COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Actor Trevor Donovan will return to Wilmington on March 7 to host Raise the Ruff Casino Night at Hotel Ballast benefiting Paws Place, a no-kill shelter in Winnabow. Donovan, who led last year's fundraiser, expects the event to help more dogs find permanent homes.  WECT
  • A free trolley service will connect all seven downtown districts on Downtown District Day, allowing residents and visitors to move between neighborhoods with ease. The service will run during the event to support local participation.  WECT
  • The NHC Commission for Women will host a Women’s History Month luncheon titled At Her Best to spotlight local and state leaders who inspire change in the community. The event will motivate and guide attendees as part of month-long celebrations.  WECT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Edward Teach Brewing will close its doors Sunday, Feb. 15 at 604 N. Fourth St.—after eight years of serving locals, the renowned brewery invites patrons to join in a final celebration with stories and brews. The farewell marks the end of a unique community hub.  Port City Daily

CULTURE NEWS

  • UNCW will host the Coast to Coast Dance Convention this weekend for participants aged five and up, featuring top dance instructors like Abby Lee Miller and Gianna Martello who will teach styles from hip hop to ballet. Director Derek Capps (with global production experience) says spots are still available.  WWAY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cape Fear Community College is expanding its Bridge to Independence Program to help adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities gain job skills and independence. The program will offer career exploration — live training, literacy support, and job placement through partnerships with local businesses.  WWAY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city council approved a $1M investment for 25 acres on Greenville Loop Road to build a new park. The county will vote on a matching $1M Feb.16, and planning will start soon for a park that could cost about $10M over three to five years — meeting grant conditions.  Port City Daily

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • After the recent winter storm, car mechanics advised cleaning vehicles — washing off salt and brine helps prevent corrosion and keeps cars safe. Residents should consult a mechanic to inspect for ice buildup, battery strength and coolant levels.  WECT
  • Travel magazine Islands.com recently named five local fishing piers as North Carolina’s best, spotlighting sites from Kure Beach to Johnnie Mercers Fishing Pier that are within an hour of Wilmington and offer scenic views + varied amenities for fishing and strolling.  Wilmington Star-News
