- ➤ According to the U.S. Department of Labor (tracking weekly jobless claims), North Carolina’s filings increased to 3,404 last week, up from 3,294 (a modest rise) while overall claims reached 231,000. Wilmington Star-News
- ➤ Gas prices in the Lower Atlantic region remained flat last week, averaging $2.75 per gallon for regular fuel on Monday, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. The price marks an 8-cent rise since last month and is 6% lower than a year ago. Wilmington Star-News

- ➤ UNCW broke ground on a new residence hall on Riegel Road on Friday as community members gathered to mark another step in expanding campus housing. The five-story dorm (540 beds) is expected to be ready for move-in by August. WWAY

- ➤ Realtor.com data shows that home prices in New Hanover County dropped from a median of $465,000 in October to $442,500 in November, a 4.8% decrease. Condos and townhomes also fell by 9.6% from October (from $415,000 to $375,000) according to the latest report. Wilmington Star-News
- ➤ The Brunswick County Planning Board will review four planned developments with about 1,900 residential units on Feb. 9 — including the revised Cherrytree Tract, Mirasol Residential, LaDane Gardens and Long Beach Road Residential.
