ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • One lane on Cape Fear Memorial Bridge remains closed as crews repair a railing that was damaged in a recent crash and drivers are advised to use caution.  WECT

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 8th Annual Beer, Bourbon and BBQ Festival takes place on March 14 at Live Oak Bank Pavilion at Riverfront Park. Festival-goers will enjoy tastings, live performances, hog pickin’ every other hour, and pie-eating contests — free souvenir bags go to those wearing green.  Port City Daily
  • Artist Milton Gore Jr. will be honored with the Celestial Visionary Award at an invitation-only reception on March 1 in Wilmington + the event, organized by Black Arts Alliance and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, will feature his surreal portrait paintings of African American subjects.  WECT
  • Wilmington resident Shari Fredrick opened the Selfie and Content Studio today to support healing and creativity (featuring a meditation and de-escalation room) that offers locals a safe space to express themselves and grow.  WWAY
  • Darius Rucker will perform in Wilmington at Live Oak Bank Pavilion on Friday, June 19 with special guests George Birge and Austin Williams, while tickets go on sale Feb. 27 at 10 a.m. with a Live Nation presale beginning Feb. 26 for All Access members.  WWAY
  • Rock band Foreigner will perform at Live Oak Bank Pavilion on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. as part of its 50th anniversary Double Trouble Vision Tour. Tickets go on sale Friday, Feb. 27 at 11 a.m. with presale for Live Nation All Access members (Feb. 25, 10 a.m.).  WECT
  • An exhibit at Cape Fear Museum traces Winter Park’s evolution from one of Wilmington’s first suburbs in the early 1900s to a vibrant community with historic schools and local landmarks. Archival photos and records capture decades of change in the neighborhood.  Wilmington Star-News

  • A state objection filed on Feb. 24 cast doubt on the harbor deepening project as USACE and the NC State Ports Authority weigh concerns about coastal contamination and increased flooding risks — officials will use federal dispute resolution before the project can move forward.  FOX Wilmington

  • Novant Health is lifting temporary visitor restrictions for children under 13 at its hospitals today at 7 a.m. after a marked decline in respiratory virus levels + officials advise continued use of protective measures.  Port City Daily

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Novant Health Wilmington NC Marathon is set for Feb. 28 with more than 5,500 runners starting at 7 a.m. at Johnnie Mercer Pier in Wrightsville Beach and finishing downtown—road closures will affect local traffic and early showers may occur.  Wilmington Star-News
