  • Coastal Horizons will host the 15th annual Power of the Purse event to support Wilmington Health Access for Teens and expand young people’s primary and mental health care; the auction is set for Wednesday, March 18 at 5:30 p.m. at the Country Club of Landfall.  FOX Wilmington
  • Laura Martin has fostered nearly 10 children through Boys & Girls Homes of North Carolina over the past three years. She said opening her home has changed her life and helps keep children close to their communities.  WECT

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local visitors can tour Battleship North Carolina (a WWII warship that took part in every major Pacific offensive) to learn about its storied past in Wilmington.  Wilmington Star-News
  • Wilmington’s events calendar now offers 16 diverse happenings spanning musicals, comedy, dance parties and car shows ahead of St. Patrick’s Day.   • NCWorks and Novant Health will host a hiring event on Saturday, March 14 at Scotts Hill Medical Center in New Hanover County as representatives recruit for clinical and support roles. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A community meeting to discuss the Navassa Superfund site cleanup is set for March 12 at the Navassa Community Center (338 Main Street) from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Officials will update residents on recent soil and debris removal and outline next steps for remediation efforts.  Port City Daily
  • Residents will get an update on cleaning the Kerr-McGee Navassa Superfund Site on Thursday, Mar. 12 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Navassa Community Center (Zoom and drop-in options from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. are available).  FOX Wilmington

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On March 4, the city held a groundbreaking for the Dawson and Wooster streetscape project (costing $5.76 million and planned to last 12 months) to improve sidewalks, ADA features, and pedestrian crossings along the main gateway; the project will ease congestion and boost connectivity.  Wilmington Star-News

  • Hoggard High's boys basketball team advanced to the state championship on Wednesday, March 4 after a 51-33 win over Laney in the NCHSAA 8A Eastern regional at Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum — they will face West Charlotte in Winston‑Salem next week.  Wilmington Star-News
