- ➤ Wilmington Community Science Fest will be held at the Davis Center on March 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will offer hands-on science activities and volunteer projects + interactive sessions like EcoExplore and Terrapin Tally, according to festival host Valerie Robertson. WECT

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Daily lane closures will begin on I-140 between U.S. 17 and U.S. 74 on Monday, March 9 as NCDOT upgrades the highway in Brunswick County; work includes milling and resurfacing (plus new rumble strips, pavement markings, guardrail updates, and bridge repairs) and drivers should expect delays. - ➤ The N.C. Ferry System will close the Southport-Fort Fisher route from March 9-10 (weather permitting) for critical ramp repairs at both terminals. The route will return to its full winter schedule once the work is completed. WECT
- ➤ State regulators objected to plans to deepen the Cape Fear River shipping channel to 47 feet, citing sea-level rise, forever chemicals, and risks to wetlands and marine habitats near the port — concerns that prompted the Army Corps of Engineers to review its next steps amid ongoing agency discussions.
