  • Scout, a two-year-old lab mix from the county sheriff’s Animal Services is looking for his forever home. Interested adopters can visit the shelter at 180 Division Drive during today’s Saturday hours (8 a.m. to 12 p.m.) for a chance to bring him home.  WECT

  • Harry Wayne Casey, founder of KC and the Sunshine Band, turns 75 and will lead his 2026 World Tour with a concert at the Wilson Center in Wilmington on March 15 — featuring 15 performers playing his classic hits. Concertgoers can expect a lively production that honors decades of music.  WECT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The North Carolina Forest Service still battles a staff shortage as wildfire season begins, with some counties in the state operating with one or no personnel. Officials warn that slower response times may worsen the risk of human-caused fires, and locals are urged to follow fire safety guidelines.  FOX Wilmington
  • Local fishing crews are retrieving abandoned crab pots to clear waterways from hazards. Romano’s crew from Seaview Crab Company recovered 65 pots since Wednesday as part of a five-group effort with the Coastal Federation to remove debris and protect marine life.  WWAY

HEALTH NEWS

  • A proposal has been filed with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services to move 64 beds from Castle Creek Memory Care to a planned adult care home called The Landings of New Hanover in Wilmington. A public hearing is set for April 10 at 10 a.m. at the Arboretum Education Center meeting room + written comments must be submitted by 5 p.m. on March 31.  WWAY
