  • Carolina Beach’s Island Cottage thrift store, a beloved local spot, will soon close. Residents can visit now to explore its unique treasures before it shuts its doors.  Wilmington Star-News

  • The downtown bar Bespoke was named on the global Imbibe 75 list on March 7, becoming the only North Carolina spot recognized for blending coffee and Italian aperitivo traditions. Owner Robby Dow will add educational tastings for small groups later this year (with flights and expert guidance).  Wilmington Star-News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • NC Division of Marine Fisheries asks recreational anglers to donate Gulf Flounder carcasses for research during the spring season from March 9 to March 22 along coastal waters including at Intracoastal Angler (Wilmington). Completed catch cards can win a tackle bag prize.  WWAY

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Saturday, Christian Recovery Centers Inc. held a ribbon cutting at its new 28-acre property at 433 Tarkln Ct NW in Shallotte to launch the treatment phase of its free drug and alcohol program; over 500 people, including family members + alumni, attended the first family reunification event.  FOX Wilmington

  • Realtor.com data showed that in December 2025, median home prices in New Hanover County fell 1.7% from $445K to $437,500 — single-family homes dropped 4.8% while condos rose 7.2%. Buyers and sellers can use these figures to gauge the local market.  Wilmington Star-News

  • UNCW men’s basketball starts its CAA Tournament run today at 12 p.m. at CareFirst Arena in Washington + faces No. 9 seed Campbell to earn three wins for a return to March Madness. The top seed had a 26 to 5 season and earned several awards.  WECT
  • StarNews Athlete of the Week Poll now lets residents vote among 36 high school nominees after standout performances — including two Wilmington teams preparing for state basketball championships in Winston-Salem from March 11–14.
