- ➤ Highsmith Branding Group announced its fourth annual The Signature Derby-Night event will take place on April 4 at Smoke on the Water during the Azalea Festival weekend. The Kentucky Derby-style event will feature a best-dressed contest, music, dancing, giveaways, signature drinks, a cigar lounge, and special guest NFL linebacker Alex Highsmith—benefiting the Alex Highsmith Family Foundation and the Barbara Highsmith Reading Academy of Wilmington. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ 32-year-old Brandon Coleman Herring, a Willard man, was arrested in North Charleston on March 18 on assault charges (he faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, and property damage) and is held at Pender County Jail without bond. - ➤ New Hanover County implemented a local burn ban to align with the statewide ban on open burning that took effect at 8:00 a.m. on March 21 due to increased fire risk—this measure prohibits burning within the county including areas within 100 feet of occupied dwellings and residents may contact the fire marshal’s office or N.C.
