- ➤ Retirees Laura Byrd and Glenn Byrd have volunteered with Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity for three years and recently joined a Global Village trip to Guatemala to help improve homes for local families in need. - ➤ On Wednesday, Harmony Hospitality met with Carolina Beach residents to discuss hotel alternatives including a 100-foot Embassy Suites Hotel, a 50-foot Holiday Inn with 134 rooms, and a 50-foot condominium with 55 units — options offered to meet local zoning needs. Developers will use a questionnaire for community feedback before meeting with the town council, and any project is expected to take three years to become a reality amid ongoing concerns. WECT

- ➤ Tomiko-San, a new sushi restaurant from the Giorgios Hospitality Group, will open before the end of March in a renovated space at Lumina Commons in Wilmington—named in honor of a beloved figure in the owner's life. Chef James Nash, who trained with a sushi master, said the menu will offer traditional options such as signature rolls, nigiri, sashimi, a seaweed salad with sea beans, Japanese curry, and donburi as well as omakase dining with indoor and outdoor seating—complemented by a small cocktail bar. - ➤ Feast Wilmington returns this weekend to mark its second year with a downtown food and drink festival — Saturday will launch with Craft & Cuisine at 11 a.m. pairing 22 local brews and restaurant dishes alongside a coastal-themed Pier Party, and Sunday will include Brunch Elevated with live music — drawing local chefs, breweries and distilleries to share diverse culinary delights. - ➤ The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority shut down a section of Covil Avenue for an emergency water main repair — officials have not announced when the road will reopen. WECT
- ➤ The Department of Government Efficiency cut grant money for the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services on Sunday — the cut removed more than $100 million used for vaccine programs, the new immunization registry, disease tracking, mental health care, and drug support services. The department said the cuts will lead to the loss of over 80 jobs. WECT

- ➤ A rezoning request will be considered at a planning commission hearing on April 2 for the 48-unit affordable senior housing project Onyx Place, proposed on just over 2 acres near the Target shopping center on Kerr Avenue and New Centre Drive. The project—led by Wallick Asset Management for property owners James and Shirley Harrell—will feature a four-story building with accessible units and community amenities and may go before city council on May 2.
