- ➤ Cheddar is a five-month-old kitten from Feline Matchmakers looking for his forever home. An adoption event is held today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mayfaire PetSmart as the nonprofit plans to dissolve by year's end. WECT
- ➤ Britt's Donut Shop, a popular Carolina Beach Boardwalk venue known for its homemade glazed doughnuts since 1939, will open three days a week—Friday, Saturday and Sunday—and on Monday, April 21 for its spring season; the shop will serve coffee, milk and sodas and will operate on select hours from April 4 to May 25. - ➤ Historic Wilmington Foundation will hold its largest annual fundraiser, the Azalea Festival Home Tour, on April 5 and 6 to feature seven homes and a church in the Oleander neighborhood developed between 1914 and 1916 by Tidewater Power Company. - ➤ Hailey Sigg pleaded guilty on March 28 to felony death by vehicle, felony hit/run causing serious injury/death, DWI and controlled substance charges in New Hanover County Superior Court—she was sentenced to 82 months with credit for 517 days served for a 2023 hit-and-run in which she drove at 84 mph with a BAC of 0.18% that killed 21-year-old UNCW student McGroary Domitrovits on Oct. 28 when his body was found on Eastwood Road in Wrightsville Beach near 3 a.m. Wilmington Star-News
- ➤ Wilmington man Jacob Bradley Newman was arrested by the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office and North Carolina SBI on child sex abuse charges when a search warrant on Thursday found a large amount of illegal materials—he faces three counts each of second- and third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and is held on a $300,000 secured bond. - ➤ The Wilmington Art Association’s Annual Art Show kicks off tonight at the Hannah Block Historic U.S.O. Community Arts Center on South Second Street and runs through Sunday, April 6. Over 200 artists display more than 300 works and winners will be announced with cash prizes during the opening reception — part of the North Carolina Azalea Festival. WWAY
- ➤ Wilmington Voices will perform Considering Matthew Shepard at UNCW’s Kenan Auditorium this May—this musical work tells the story of Matthew Shepard and his role in changing hate crime laws while tickets cost $25 with $5 from each sale benefiting his foundation and local high school choruses joining the performance.
