  • Many drivers who use the East Boiling Spring Road detour in Boiling Spring Lakes have grown weary of the sharp, narrow curve on Drayton Road and are slowing down to navigate it carefully.  Wilmington Star-News
  • A free family-friendly street fair will be held in downtown Wilmington from April 4th to April 6th featuring live music, food, vendors, and activities for children and adults — street parking is free while additional parking is available in city decks.  Wilmington Star-News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Wilmington will host the NC Azalea Festival from April 2—6 with a garden party, parade, street fair and concerts. The event will honor Queen Azalea Bethany Joy Lenz, known for her role on One Tree Hill, while the StarNews provides daily festival coverage.  Wilmington Star-News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Regional gas prices in the Lower Atlantic region remained near $2.90 per gallon on Monday—showing little change from last week and staying roughly 7% below the national average.  Wilmington Star-News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Teacher Christine Sawyer of Bradley Creek Elementary entered the Teacher Astronaut Contest to win a free weightless flight in zero gravity offered by Zero-G—she plans to use the experience to boost STEM learning for her students. The contest winner will be announced on April 21 and the flight is scheduled for June 1.  Port City Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • In the 1980s, Wilmington replaced a hazardous 1920s drawbridge with a new four-lane bridge later renamed the Isabel Stellings Holmes Bridge and built the S. Thomas Rhodes Bridge to link the area to Brunswick County—projects that were launched by a 1977 bid to secure a cost-effective, safer crossing.  Wilmington Star-News
