COMMUNITY NEWS

  • LINC will host free Second Chance Month events at the Harrelson Center downtown with Empowerment Day and Community Exhibitors on Monday, April 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Attendees will access local resources and support, including harm reduction and voting education (provided by local organizations).  FOX Wilmington

CULTURE NEWS

  • Newly discovered documents reveal a link between St. Luke AME Zion Church and Wilmington's 1898 coup and massacre that adds a missing piece to the city’s past.  Wilmington Star-News
  • Wilmington hosts a busy Easter weekend with plays about local legends, live music series and film screenings scheduled at Thalian Hall, The Boatyard and Burgwin-Wright House, with events starting today and continuing into the weekend.   • Cameron Art Museum announced it acquired Ayana V. Jackson’s 2018 work 'Judgement of Paris' for its permanent collection. The piece was selected during a special acquisition dinner (March 25) at the museum.  WECT
  • Ghostbusters in Concert will take the Wilson Center stage on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m. at Cape Fear Community College. Tickets go on sale to members Thursday, Apr. 2 at 10 a.m. and to the public Friday, Apr. 3 at 10 a.m.  Port City Daily
  • Wilmington will host WWII events during Azalea Festival week from April 6 to 12. Highlights include warbird displays at Wilmington Airport (featuring US Navy TBM Avenger and Stearman 75), a National Guard show at the armory, and a forum at Cape Fear Community College from April 6 to 8.  WWAY
  • A full orchestra will perform the live Ghostbusters score with the movie at the Wilson Center on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets go on sale for members on Thursday, April 2 and for the public on Friday, April 3.  WECT

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Wilmington have soared as global oil tensions push fuel costs above $4 per gallon — local driver Henry Pearce said his recent fill-up only produced 5.2 gallons, and economists warn rising transportation costs may soon affect everyday prices.  FOX Wilmington

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • U.S. Census data shows Brunswick County was among the fastest-growing areas with a 4.7 percent increase between 2024 and 2025, while the Wilmington metro area grew by 2.6 percent. Governor Josh Stein noted more people moved to North Carolina from other states than anywhere else.  WWAY
  • Attorney General Jeff Jackson (with 41 state attorneys general) urged Congress to classify xylazine as a Schedule III controlled substance to help law enforcement track and shut down illicit drug distribution in North Carolina. Testing in several counties found the drug in about 27% of street samples.  WECT

HEALTH NEWS

  • Novant Health announced new Ion robotic bronchoscopy technology that provides a minimally invasive method for lung biopsies. Patients in southeastern North Carolina can now access improved lung cancer diagnosis — supported by the regional foundation.  WECT

SPORTS NEWS

  • The UNCW men’s golf team won the Seahawk Intercollegiate today at the Country Club of Landfall Nicklaus Course, finishing 18-under par while Duke finished 9-under par. Gray Mitchum shared co-champion honors and coach Blake Taylor’s first season looks strong (UNCW has now recorded five top-five finishes this season).  FOX Wilmington
