- ➤ Beach towns near Wilmington have started paid parking for beachgoers this season—some beginning in March while others, like Sunset Beach and Ocean Isle Beach, started in April—with different hours, fees, and free parking options during off-season hours. The changes include new rates and special parking permits that some towns raised from last year. Wilmington Star-News
- ➤ Sunny, a five-year-old dog who is sweet and friendly, is available for adoption at the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Animal Shelter—located at 180 Division Drive in Wilmington—with adoption hours Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. WECT

- ➤ The 22nd annual North Carolina Black Film Festival, produced by Black Arts Alliance Inc., will take place from April 10 to 13 in Wilmington—featuring films, workshops, and an awards event. Special guests include Bruce W. Smith, who will get a Lifetime Achievement Award for animation—and the festival will end with a showing of the documentary Minnie Evans: Draw or Die. - ➤ On April 4, the Kenan House in Wilmington hosted a ribbon-cutting for the N.C. Azalea Festival Garden Tour, where Queen Azalea Bethany Joy Lenz officially opened the gardens. - ➤ Today the 78th annual North Carolina Azalea Festival is underway with thousands enjoying weekend events and extra security from Wilmington Police Department and New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office. - ➤ Twenty homes in Carolina Beach will be elevated over the next few years to lower flood damage risk—each home will be raised two feet above the flood level.
