  • Hundreds gathered Saturday at Tate Farm in Willard for the Easter Extravaganza and egg drop; gusty winds diverted the planned drop and organizers recalled the crowd to reset while families enjoyed vendors and a live performance by EZ Livin Band (with plans for next year's improvements).  WWAY

  • A new Target store is scheduled to open in Wilmington next month near Monkey Junction. The retail outlet will offer shoppers a modern space for everyday items and may add job opportunities to the local community.  WECT

CULTURE NEWS

  • In the 1990s, the NC Azalea Festival featured festive parades on Water Street, concerts at Trask Coliseum and family events by the Cotton Exchange, marking its shift from small-town charm to a major entertainment event. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials and environmental groups oppose Fuquay-Varina’s plan to draw 6 million gallons a day from Cape Fear and discharge it into the Neuse, fearing reduced flows and worsened drought conditions. Public comments closed April 1 plus state agencies will review the draft environmental impact before further hearings.  Wilmington Star-News

  • Marina Joe’s, a new restaurant backed by local owners, will open in Surf City this May at 209 N. New River Drive near the Intracoastal Waterway in Pender County. The two-story 6,000 sqft space will offer indoor + outdoor dining with 170 seats and boat slips.  Port City Daily
