  • The Master Gardener Volunteer Association will hold its 38th annual plant sale from April 10 to 13 at the New Hanover County Arboretum and N.C. Cooperative Extension with sales open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The event includes a free Seed Swap plus guests should carpool due to limited parking and the Arboretum will be closed April 7 to 9.  WWAY

CRIME NEWS

  • Wilmington police arrested 46-year-old Cedric Johnson (accused in the fatal stabbing of 44-year-old Jeffrey Jermaine Scott) just after 8:15 p.m. (Saturday, April 5) when officers responded to a report of a stabbing on the 100 block of Montgomery Avenue where the victim died at the scene.  Wilmington Star-News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Brooke Renshaw, lead singer of the local band Oc3ans, competed in the head to head round of American Idol on April 7 and awaited the judges' decision on whether she would move on to the America votes round. The contest paired 42 singers for duets (with country singer Jelly Roll as the artist in residence) while judges Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan and Carrie Underwood advanced four contestants.  Wilmington Star-News
  • The 78th annual North Carolina Azalea Festival drew about 250,000 visitors thanks to warm weather, featuring a military aircraft display at the airport and a bustling street fair downtown. Organizers said the multi-day event was a big success — long lines at food stalls and prompt cleanup after the parade marked the day.  WWAY
