BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Northside Food Co-op is rethinking its downtown grocery store project by studying a new Northside location and adding hot food service to attract more shoppers after a big-name store took a city-donated parcel. The co-op will decide its next steps at meetings on April 12 and April 28 — its market study shows the current plan may not generate enough revenue.  Port City Daily

  • Wilmington Police are searching for 11-year-old Nasir Green who was last seen on April 7th on the 2800 block of Bloomfield Lane; he stands 5 feet 4 and weighs about 100 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes (call 910 343 3609 for tips).  WECT

  • Wilmington singer Brooke Renshaw, lead vocalist for Oc3ans, ended her American Idol run on April 7 after not advancing to the America votes round—she thanked supporters and said the experience boosted her confidence after singing for 900 people at the Orpheum Theatre.  Wilmington Star-News

  • UNCW has been named among the nation’s best graduate programs in the U.S. News and World Report 2025 rankings. The university’s Master of Healthcare Administration debuted at #68 in Healthcare Management + its Public Affairs ranking rose to #121 while Education ranked at #209.  University of North Carolina Wilmington

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Wilmington City Council met in closed session Tuesday to review the search for a new city manager as current manager Tony Caudle will retire on June 1—more than 80 candidates were narrowed to six and interviews will begin in the coming weeks.  WECT

HEALTH NEWS

  • Coastal Cosmetic Family Dentistry will host the 11th annual Dentistry From The Heart event at its Bolivia office on May 16 (7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.), where over 200 patients will receive free dental care on a first-come basis while Novant Health screens for high blood pressure. The office has donated $400,000 in free care over the past decade to aid more than 2,000 Brunswick County residents (a key part of its community service).  WECT
