- ➤ Acme-Delco-Riegelwood Fire-Rescue will host a free car seat check event at ADR Station 1 in Riegelwood on Wednesday, April 29 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents who cannot attend can message ADRFR on Facebook to schedule an inspection. WECT
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Cameron Art Museum will present Fresh Air: Inflatable Sculptures from June 19 through Sep. 6, featuring large-scale inflatable artwork from several artists + additional programs will be announced during the summer. WECT
- ➤ Renovation has begun on historic Thalian Hall in downtown Wilmington as crews start a $25 million project to add three new venues to meet growing demand, with $14 million earmarked for upgrades in the former City Hall space. WECT
- ➤ Nurse Blake, known for his viral comedy and nursing skills, will perform his “But Did You Die?” show on Friday, Oct. 23 at the Wilson Center (CFCC) while tickets go on sale online to members today at 10 a.m. and to the public on Friday, April 17 at 10 a.m. Port City Daily

- ➤ Wilmington's rapid growth has led to more encounters with wild animals such as alligators, bears, and manatees, so officials advise residents to keep a safe distance + avoid feeding or provoking them as spring sightings continue. Wilmington Star-News
- ➤ Since Mar. 28, over 550 wildfires have burned 2,200 acres statewide as the burn ban continues amid forecasts of little rain for up to 10 days. Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler (N.C. Forest Service) urged residents to follow the ban and use extra caution with equipment and smoking materials. FOX Wilmington

- ➤ Leland Town Council will host the first 'Let’s Talk Leland' forum on Wednesday, April 29 at the Leland Cultural Arts Center to invite open dialogue between residents and town officials. Mayor Brenda Bozeman and Councilmember Leland Hyer will answer questions and collect feedback (more forums are planned). WECT

- ➤ CFPUA issued a boil water advisory affecting the 2000 and 2100 blocks of Carolina Beach Road, all of Morningside Drive and Ivey Circle yesterday; lab staff will test the water to confirm its safety before lifting the advisory. WECT

- ➤ Nineteen Wilmington-area runners are set to run in the celebrated Boston Marathon on Monday, April 20. They will tackle the historic course from Hopkinton to Boylston Street and join more than 30,000 runners from 130+ countries on the race. Wilmington Star-News
