  • The Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC and nonprofits hosted a pop-up market at Jerusalem Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in Chadbourn on Saturday, where six-year-old volunteer Jayden Lee helped serve fresh fruits and vegetables to local neighbors. The mobile food distribution program aims to address gaps in food access in rural areas — organizers said the next event will run May 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  WECT
  • At a pop-up market held at Jerusalem Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in Chadbourn, a 6-year-old volunteer, Jayden Lee, helped serve fresh fruits, vegetables, and bags of food to neighbors—working alongside his uncle. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Several firefighting crews are battling a wildfire that has burned over 400 acres in Pender County — the blaze started from a controlled burn that got out of control because of windy conditions.  WECT
  • Fire crews are battling a 100-acre wildfire in Rocky Point and are urging residents along Ashton Road at Ashton Crossroads and McCrary Roads to evacuate. A WECT crew reported planes spraying water on the blaze and the NC Forest Service—Burgaw Fire Department, Rocky Point Volunteer Fire Department, and Pender County Emergency Management are working to contain it.  WECT
  • Fire crews confirmed that residents on Ashton Road and McCrary Road in Rocky Point can safely return home — several crews are battling a 450-acre wildfire that is 95% contained while aircraft spray water on the blaze.  FOX Wilmington

  • New Hanover County commissioners will vote Monday, April 21 on changes that raise fees for breeders and animal care—upgrading a breeder permit from $20 to $150 and adding stricter rules for dangerous dogs after community complaints about animal safety and breeder practices.  Port City Daily
