- ➤ Thalian Hall will host its annual Community Day on Saturday, April 25 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering tours, demonstrations of the rare 19th-century Thunder Roll, local arts presentations plus the on-sale launch of the new Main Attractions season. WWAY
- ➤ The New Hanover County Parks Conservancy will host its annual Food Truck Rodeo this Sunday, Apr. 26 from noon to 5 p.m. at Ogden Park, featuring local food trucks, beverage vendors, and live music while proceeds support the construction of the All Wheels Pump Track at Northern Regional Park. - ➤ Cold Crew Carvers, a locally based skateboard and clothing brand, will host a skate event in the Cargo District at Barzarre on Castle Street tomorrow, April 25 from noon to 8 p.m.—featuring a mini-ramp, three bands such as Cement Block Pillow Fight, 20 vendors and their first fashion show. - ➤ Three Wilmington-area high school students from Laney and New Hanover were honored in Washington D.C. after winning the 2025 Congressional App Challenge with their app (Remember When) that helps seniors preserve memories. WECT
- ➤ Cape Fear Community College is partnering with the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office & will run a full-day active shooter simulation training exercise from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Apr. 25 at its Downtown and North campuses, with temporary sidewalk closures on Front Street. - ➤ Cape Fear Community College will hold its spring commencement ceremonies on Friday, May 8 at the Wilson Center in downtown Wilmington, with 1,417 graduates earning credentials at four scheduled times (9 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.), and the event requires tickets. WECT
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday at Wilmington Skyline Center, state environmental officials held the final hearing for proposed PFAS rules that would require industrial facilities to test wastewater for PFOS, PFOA, and GenX. Written comments will be accepted until June 15 as residents said the measures do not protect local waterways enough. FOX Wilmington
- ➤ Bald Head Island Conservancy has joined with Georgia Tech to form a research partnership that will study coastal sustainability, ecosystem health, and environmental resilience. The initiative will give student researchers hands-on conservation experience on Bald Head Island — details on project priorities will be shared later. WECT
- ➤ Environmentalists boarded the Henrietta in downtown Wilmington on April 23 to question Enviva’s wood pellet operations, doubting the sustainability and job claims behind shipping local trees to Europe for clean energy.
