COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Food Lion Feeds and Food Bank CENC partnered in Wilmington as over 60 associates packed 18,814 meals by sorting produce+ packing boxes+ and tending community gardens, while more than 450 associates across six branches volunteered amid rising food insecurity affecting over 76,000 people. This community effort helped address urgent needs in Wilmington.  WECT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Wrightsville Beach completed road improvement projects by adding new bike lanes on Causeway Drive and expanding the pedestrian loop on N Lumina Avenue — a step that aims to improve safety for residents and visitors. The town said the updates reflect its ongoing commitment to accessible, safe travel.  WECT
  • A survey by the NC Police Benevolent Association found that nearly all Wilmington police officers are unhappy with their work environment, leadership, and pay. The results—shared with Mayor Saffo and the city council last week—show only 7% would recommend the department as a good place to work.  WHQR
  • New Hanover County commissioners will vote on Monday to approve an $11.6 million purchase of 60 acres at 3900 Independence Boulevard to preserve a forested green space in Wilmington. The county will pay about $3.8 million from the Revenue Stabilization Fund over 10 years without raising property taxes and will seek community input for the site's future use.  Port City Daily
  • Town officials report that the Causeway Drive and North Lumina improvements in Wrightsville Beach are complete just in time for summer; bike lanes make the road safer for cyclists — while the expanded pedestrian walkway gives more room for walkers and beachgoers.  WWAY
