- ➤ A car crashed into White Front Breakfast House on Market and S 16th Streets in Wilmington, injuring one person inside and leaving at least five customers present—Wilmington Police Department officials said they are investigating the incident after employees reported a loud boom. WECT

- ➤ JetBlue launched its nonstop flight from Wilmington International Airport to Boston Logan using its Airbus A220—operating daily through Oct. 25. The ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the launch as the airline offered promotional fares as low as $49 on April 30 and today. WWAY
- ➤ Dave & Buster's will open at Mayfaire Town Center in Wilmington on May 26 with over 100 games, a sports bar, rentable social bays and award-winning food. The venue is hiring bartenders, servers and game techs as it prepares for its grand opening. Wilmington Star-News

- ➤ Three people were arrested by the Pender County Sheriff's Office after officers found nearly nine pounds of fentanyl and other narcotics — along with firearms — at a Rocky Point home. WECT
- ➤ Michael Lavelle, a 30 year old man accused of killing Holly Pettey, appeared in Wilmington court on April 30 to face charges of first degree murder and resisting police after his arrest following the discovery of Pettey's body in an apartment at One Midtown—he injured himself while fleeing and is now recovering in the hospital. - ➤ On April 28, Wilmington-area chefs, pastry chefs and mixologists competed at End of Days Distillery in a preliminary round of the 2025 Chef Showdown—using local ingredients and creative recipes. Finalists will compete in Durham on Aug. 4 as the event moves into its next stage. Wilmington Star-News

- ➤ At the Burney Center on April 29, UNCW honored staff member Zack Shail as the 2025 Staff Award for Excellence recipient for his work in Customer Service as commercialization coordinator in the Office of Innovation and Commercialization. Chancellor Aswani K. Volety praised Shail - who closed OIC's largest license in FY24 - and he received $1,500, a year of reserved parking, a framed certificate, and a commemorative clock. - ➤ Museum of Coastal Carolina and Ingram Planetarium will celebrate 34 and 24 years respectively with a week of interactive events from May 18 to 24—offering craft stations, live feedings and lectures—highlighting decades of science education. WWAY

- ➤ The NC State Bureau of Investigation — in collaboration with the DEA and National Guard — collected 20,332 pounds of unused prescription medications in a spring take back event. The medications will be destroyed at an incinerator in Virginia. WECT

- ➤ Starway Apartments will open later this year with 278 affordable units, as the first 102 are now leasing and tenants are set to move in over the summer.
