- ➤ Holden Beach has announced its 2025 summer concert series at Bridgeview Park, where free shows will be held every Sunday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The lineup starts on May 25 with The Embers feat. - ➤ The Senate’s budget proposal would raise the Fort Fisher-Southport ferry ticket from $7 to $10 for vehicles 20 feet or less (with higher fees for larger vehicles and added tolls on routes that are currently free) to help fund aging infrastructure and future improvements. Opponents say ferries are essential for both local commuters and tourists, and the proposal is now under review by the House before the new fiscal year begins on July 1. Wilmington Star-News
- ➤ On May 1, 2025, county commissioners and the planning board reviewed a housing study that showed the county needed 21,864 more units in the next 10 years to support a growing population — a steep jump from the previous estimate of 16,875 units. Officials agreed to narrow the comprehensive plan goals to address land use, transportation and design, aiming to help both home ownership and rental markets — key factors for local affordability.
