- ➤ Good Shepherd opened The Starling for 32 individuals at a former firehouse on Carolina Beach Road near Independence Boulevard. The three-story complex features single-bedroom apartments with accessibility features and common areas, and residents will move in gradually over the next several weeks with in-house case management. - ➤ Good Shepherd Center celebrated the opening of SECU The Sparrow supportive housing community last Friday, May 8 on Carolina Beach Road. The 32-apartment facility for homeless individuals with disabilities received funding from the NC Housing Finance Agency’s SHARP (Supportive Housing American Rescue Plan) program, city and SECU Foundation. - ➤ Downtown Wilmington's restaurant scene is shifting as an upscale Mexican restaurant closed Monday, making way for a new eatery from a local restaurateur (the change reflects a growing trend in innovative brunch and coffee spots) and a popular bottle shop is closing soon (visitors still have time to enjoy it). - ➤ Cameron Art Museum’s Design NC 2026 raised over $125,000 for exhibitions, arts education and public programs with record attendance. The two-day fundraiser held April 30 and May 1 drew more than 400 guests at Cocktails in the Courtyard and a sold-out Design NC Forum & Luncheon. WWAY
- ➤ The Wilmington Greek Festival will take place May 15-17 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church on South College Road, offering homemade Greek food, live music, dancing, and sanctuary tours (pets not allowed).
