CRIME NEWS

  • Wilmington Police searched for a suspect in a parking garage shooting early Sunday morning after reports of shots fired in downtown Wilmington—officers stopped a vehicle based on video evidence from the scene.  WECT
  • Early Sunday morning, just after 2:30 a.m., Wilmington Police responded to gunshots in a busy parking garage off Market Street after witnesses heard shots on the fourth floor and saw a red car, and four people were detained but then released + police are now looking for a suspect.  WECT
  • Labron Pryor was sentenced to life in prison on May 12 — his trial for the 2022 murder of Jailin Tilghman-Deablo ended then.  WECT
  • North Carolina Attorney General Jeff Jackson and five other state attorneys general sent a letter to WeChat leaders on Monday, alleging that the app has aided criminals in laundering money from fentanyl sales and giving it 30 days to address the issue + several recent investigations have linked WeChat to international drug trafficking.  WECT
  • More than a year after their three-year-old granddaughter Ailani Jackson died from injuries following repeated hospital visits, Leland grandparents Tiffany Walker and Darius Brunson are still seeking justice as Wilmington Police continue to investigate her death—which was ruled a homicide due to blunt force injuries.  WWAY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • CFPUA will begin sewer smoke-testing in several Wilmington neighborhoods starting Saturday, May 17 in the Waterford area of Myrtle Grove and extending to other areas from May 19 over about two weeks (tests run Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. while services remain unaffected).  Port City Daily

  • The New Hanover County Senior Resource Center will host a free Health and Resource Fair on May 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 2222 S.
