- ➤ Becky Hawke, who has over 18 years of local government work from Matthews, was named Wilmington’s new city manager after a unanimous city council vote on May 20—she will replace retiring Tony Caudle and begin her role on June 30. Port City Daily
- ➤ The North Carolina Department of Transportation said tolls are the only option to fund the $1.1 billion Cape Fear Memorial Bridge replacement project, even though both Wilmington and Leland councils opposed tolls. The Wilmington Metropolitan Planning Organization will vote on the toll option next Wednesday—local officials warn it may shift traffic to the Isabel Holmes bridge. WWAY
