- ➤ Cape Fear Public Utility Authority addressed a sewer overflow on Whisper Creek Lane on May 28 that released an estimated 762 gallons of untreated wastewater into Hewlett’s Creek and captured an additional 4,400 gallons while repairing the leak and beginning water sampling—officials have notified the Division of Water Resources. - ➤ WMPO confirmed Wednesday its support for using tolling and other options to fund the new Cape Fear Memorial Bridge while facing an almost $800 million funding gap if a $242 million federal grant is delayed. NCDOT and WMPO are now working to secure additional state and federal funds—an effort that will determine the final payment plan for the bridge replacement. WECT
