- ➤ On June 17, the Brooklyn Café team will open Skyline Café in downtown offices at Skyline Center—offering coffee, espresso drinks, homemade baked goods, and locally sourced lunches with a ribbon-cutting at 11 a.m. The new cafe will operate Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and replaces Three Friends Coffee, which closed its lease in April. - ➤ Wilmington police arrested 24-year-old Austin Snowten on June 2 for shooting a person inside a U-Haul truck on Dawson Street+ he now faces multiple charges. WECT
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The National Hurricane Center is tracking a low-pressure system off the southeast coast that has a 10% chance to develop tropical characteristics later this week; if it stays offshore, it could bring heavy rain, minor coastal flooding and rip currents to Wilmington. Residents are advised to prepare for hurricane season—June 1 to November 30. Wilmington Star-News

- ➤ The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority issued a boil water advisory on June 3 for about 150 Wilmington customers after a water main leak affected areas from Masonboro Loop Road through parts of Cheyenne Trail and nearby streets. Staff are working to repair the leak and advise customers to boil water for consumption until service is restored. FOX Wilmington
- ➤ Monday morning, city staff briefed the Wilmington City Council on the century-old Kenan Fountain and recommended repairing damage estimated at over $285,000—removing benches may help prepare for a future relocation.
