- ➤ More than 50 people gathered Saturday at Long Leaf Park when Cape Fear Moms Demand Action for Gun Safety hosted a National Gun Safety Weekend event where speakers discussed proposed gun laws and safe storage practices—families marched with signs, wore orange, and children took part in games and handouts. - ➤ Trask Family Farms will host the Sunflower Festival Saturday, June 14 from 9 a.m.—6 p.m. at 3650 Blue Clay Road, featuring a sunflower maze, craft vendors, live music, hayrides, food trucks and a petting zoo with general admission at $10 and free entry for children under three; attendees will be advised to wear closed-toe shoes and sun protection while pets are not allowed except for certified service animals. - ➤ Strong thunderstorms hit Cape Fear Sunday, and a tree fell on a car in Murrayville near White Road and Alamosa Drive—damaging a fence, toppling trees in downtown Wilmington and nearby counties, knocking over tables and chairs at Anne Bonny’s Bar and Grill along the Riverwalk, and sending one person to the hospital as officials repaired a traffic light by the Isabel Holmes Bridge. - ➤ Authorities are searching for 17-year-old Javon Spears, who was last seen June 5 on Jason Court in Wilmington wearing black jeans, a black shirt and black shoes — he is 5′10 and about 130 pounds and was in possession of his mother's 2020 Gray Kia Sorento. WECT
- ➤ The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is looking for 17-year-old Javon Spears who was last seen June 5 on Jason Court in Wilmington wearing black jeans, a black shirt and black shoes while in his mother's 2020 gray Kia Sorento — anyone with information should contact the office immediately.
