- ➤ Wilmington will host many free summer events for all ages, including art programs for veterans, camps, lectures, and family arts nights. - ➤ Local nonprofit Public Archaeology Corps is digging in downtown Wilmington behind a brick façade on South Front Street near Market Street—volunteers have uncovered over 100,000 artifacts from 20 feet underground and now need more help to document the city’s history. WECT
- ➤ Battleship North Carolina—located at 1 Battleship Road off U.S. 421—offers unique views of Wilmington from its bow, stern and west side where visitors can see the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge, downtown, and Eagles Island wetlands. The vessel is open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with adult tickets around $15 and includes a free wooden walkway for additional scenic views. Wilmington Star-News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Starting Monday, New Hanover County Schools will serve free meals for kids and teens 18 and under at participating sites this summer. Meals are available Monday through Friday between June 16 and August 7 + they must be eaten on site with some locations closed on holidays. WWAY

- ➤ On Thursday, New Hanover County Commissioners approved the 2026 budget with a new tax rate of 30.6 cents per $100 of property value—$36 million in spending was removed to help lower the rate and support schools and the sheriff. WWAY
