  • Leading Into New Communities Inc. is offering free workshops to help justice-involved individuals secure employment in Wilmington; sessions run on Wednesdays at the Harrelson Center from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and on Thursdays at 801 Princess Street from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.—future bootcamps include a hospitality and ServSafe certification program from June 23-26.  WECT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Wilmington City Council approved the FY26 balanced budget of $306.6 million — a measure that supports public safety, workforce development, and infrastructure — on June 17 with the new fiscal year set to begin on July 1. The budget also funds switching from the Safelight program to city-owned cameras and converting the SABLE helicopter unit to unmanned aerial systems — steps that boost key public services — while increasing competitive pay and supporting affordable housing.  WWAY

HEALTH NEWS

  • A local research team from Novant Health and the University of North Carolina is testing ways to lower opioid prescriptions after surgery while keeping patient care strong.
