- ➤ On Saturday, the North Carolina Blueberry Festival took place in downtown Burgaw — a two-day event featuring over 175 artisan vendors, live music, and a range of blueberry treats — and raised funds for charitable and educational projects, including supporting community handicap ramp purchases through Burgaw Baptist Church. - ➤ On Friday night, a car traveling south on Carolina Beach Road veered onto Cathay Road and crashed into a sign outside The Grill House Company, sending both the driver and a passenger to the hospital where the passenger died — the State Highway Patrol is investigating and is contacting next of kin with potential charges to follow. - ➤ Tuesday night, Wilmington City Council approved its $306.6M FY25-26 budget with a tax rate of 28.25 cents per $100 and began upset bid processes for leasing Skyline Center’s eighth floor and selling a surplus police property, with bids due by July 3 — the council also approved a special use permit for a 25-unit courtyard home project on Greenville Loop Road that includes a lease requirement of at least three months to limit short-term rentals.
