  • Wilmington police are investigating a suspicious death after arriving at East Lake Shore Drive just after 10 p.m. today—no details about the man's identity or cause of death have been released.  WECT
  • The New Hanover County DA’s office said it will not refile DUI charges against deputy city manager Mary Vigue after the arresting deputy left the sheriff’s office — a move the office called selective prosecution.  WHQR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Wilmington City Councilman Luke Waddell announced his run for re-election on Friday, June 27, to seek a second term after first being elected in 2021. He said in a Facebook post that he loves the city & is ready to continue his work on local boards and commissions.  FOX Wilmington
  • Topsail Beach Town Manager Doug Shipley said he is resigning because the town’s political direction has shifted—he noted the new priorities differ from those under which he was hired. His resignation will take effect on August 29th, and he will help onboard his successor to ensure a smooth transition.  WWAY
  • Leland's planning board approved new rules that limit development in flood zones and require houses to be built 4 feet above ground, adding the 500-year flood zone to protect areas previously flooded by Potential Tropical Cyclone 8 and Hurricane Florence. Councilman Bill McHugh said town council will vote on the changes on July 17th — the new rules aim to make homes safer.  WWAY
