- ➤ Tropical Storm Chantal formed off the southeast coast and the National Hurricane Center issued tropical storm warnings for parts of the Carolinas. At 9 a.m. EDT its center was 240 miles south-southwest of Wilmington and is expected to cross the South Carolina coast today as it gains strength. WECT
- ➤ A tropical storm warning is in effect for coastal Brunswick County after Tropical Storm Chantal formed off the coast and rain bands reached Wilmington Saturday morning. Wilmington residents may see heavy rainfall up to 2 to 4 inches near the coast — along with localized flooding and dangerous rip currents — as the storm moves closer. Wilmington Star-News

- ➤ Candidates in the Cape Fear municipal elections will file for office from 8 a.m. July 7 to noon July 18+voters must register by October 10 with early voting running from October 16 to November 1 and Election Day set for November 4 covering local mayor and council races. Wilmington Star-News
- ➤ North Carolina Governor Josh Stein vetoed four bills that would ban DEI training and state funds for diversity programs—he said the measures would harm vulnerable people and lower public services. The vetoed bills now return to the General Assembly, which may reconvene later this month to attempt a veto override. FOX Wilmington
