- ➤ Crews responded to a house fire at 405 S Lumina Ave in Wrightsville Beach on July 5 at 1:30 a.m. when discarded fireworks in a trash can under the house ignited the structure and no injuries were reported. WECT

- ➤ A former UNCW assistant volleyball coach, Jeffrey Jacob Yasalonis, appeared in court on June 7 after allegedly striking 43-year-old Melanie Degrazio in a fatal hit-and-run on Market Street at about 12:23 a.m.—he is held on a $35,000 bond and his next court date is July 24. FOX Wilmington
- ➤ A man identified as Raquan Wilson, 34, was shot in downtown Wilmington early Sunday morning and died at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center — police are investigating his death as a homicide. WWAY

- ➤ The Town of St. James marked the 20th anniversary of its Living Shoreline Project at Waterway Park on Monday—180 volunteers and UNCW marine science students used over 850 bags of recycled oyster shells and marsh grasses to protect the coastline from erosion. Local leaders have supported the project for two decades as rising sea levels and stronger storms continue to threaten local marine habitats. WECT

- ➤ After Tropical Storm Chantal brought heavy rains over the Fourth of July weekend, Chadbourn residents Holly and Corey Floyd suffered flooding that damaged their home and crowded their yard with water—forcing them to spend over $1,000 on repairs each time.
