- ➤ Today, the New Hanover County Community Foundation awarded over $50,000 in grants to 15 local nonprofits that support Wilmington residents. The funds came from five sources — the community grantmaking fund, 1898 Memorial Endowment, Food Bank of Coastal Carolina Fund, Lucille Murchison Marvin Fund and Suzanne and George Taylor Endowment. - ➤ New owners led by radio host Jason “Foz” Fosdick will open MOBA Beer Co.—an artsy brewery, gallery and live music venue—in the former Mannkind Brewing space at 9600 Ploof Road by August pending permits and final touches. Fosdick said his partners from The Ibis, The Half and Starling Bar will bring local art and music to the 5,000-square-foot space to serve Leland and Belville residents. Port City Daily

- ➤ Wilmington Police are searching for missing teen Jeyvia Scott (17 years old, 5 feet tall and about 180 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes) who was last seen on July 4 at the 3500 block of Metting Road and may have been wearing a blue tracksuit and white tank top. WECT
- ➤ On Monday afternoon, Wilmington police arrested 36-year-old Joseph DellaCamera on Princess Place Drive after active warrants led to the seizure of fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, a knife + stun gun, and he now faces multiple drug and weapon charges while being held on a $107,500 secured bond with his first court appearance set for 2 p.m. on July 24 at the New Hanover County Courthouse. - ➤ Cucalorus Film Foundation in Wilmington has opened applications for its 2025 Filmed in NC Fund to help local indie filmmakers with projects of $1.5 million or less (grant awards range from $300 to $3,000) and the deadline to apply is Oct. 8th. Award winners will be announced at the Cucalorus Film Festival from Nov. 19th to Nov. 23rd (developed in partnership with the state film office). Port City Daily
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ New Hanover County Schools faced a budget shortfall of more than $5 million after losing a $2 million local supplement from a property value reassessment and having federal funds withheld for teacher support and migrant education programs. The board met Tuesday and cut about $975,000 from pre-k classrooms while warning that further cuts—possibly rising to $6.2 million and affecting roughly $1.2 million in nurse positions—could force the district to do less with less. - ➤ The NCDOT is checking signs, barricades, trucks, and chainsaws to prepare for the Atlantic hurricane season in Division Three counties—this includes New Hanover. Over 300 maintenance workers will join construction and project teams to help as storms approach. WWAY
