- ➤ Brunswick County Habitat for Humanity is expanding its projects to build entire neighborhoods as rising land costs make affordable housing scarce—The groundbreaking in Leland began in June with three homes poured and seven more planned to finish by the end of 2026, while a homeownership session was held on June 24. A similar neighborhood project is underway in Calabash with storm water permits in process. WECT
- ➤ Dan Winslow resigned as president and CEO of New Hanover Community Endowment to focus on personal priorities. The board appointed interim CEO Sophie Dagenais—who had served as vice president of programs and grants—to maintain the organization’s strategic direction. WWAY

- ➤ Cape Fear Community College will partner with StepUp Wilmington to expand its Jobs Week courses that offer four-day job readiness sessions—each running Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. beginning July 22, with added support for interview and resume development and access to the college's career resources. - ➤ On Monday, The Endowment CEO Dan Winslow resigned to focus on personal priorities after less than a year in the role, having led a rebrand and new grant programs in New Hanover County — the board appointed interim CEO Sophie Dagenais without outlining a long-term replacement plan. - ➤ The New Hanover County Alcoholic Beverage Control Board announced it awarded $625,000 through the 2026 Community Health and Wellness Grant program to ten local nonprofits that help with alcohol and substance misuse education, treatment and prevention. Awards ranged from $15,000 to $70,000 for recipients including Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeastern North Carolina, LINC Inc., Coastal Horizons, A Safe Place, Five14 Revolution, Carousel Child Advocacy Center, First Fruit Ministries, Tides, Inc., Lower Cape Fear Lifecare and MedNorth Health Center—part of a program that has provided over $3 million in grants since 2021. - ➤ WMPO’s Be a Looker Campaign—launched in 2019 and renewed every summer—aims to reduce pedestrian and bike accidents in Wilmington, where there are 72 pedestrian and 57 bike incidents on average each year.
