- ➤ On July 15, New Hanover County Fire Rescue responded at about 4:45 a.m. to a car fire near I-40 at the North College Road and Gordon Road exit where a burning vehicle was found in the woods with one person dead—state patrol is investigating while the 420 exit and nearby shoulder remain closed. - ➤ Researchers at UNC Chapel Hill found that southeastern flooding is more recurring than previously thought with over 20,000 buildings flooded more than once from data on 78 storms between 1996 and 2020—far exceeding federal reports.
