- ➤ Wilmington police said 33-year-old Mathew Haskins died after being hit on Market Street near Lennon Drive at 3:30 p.m. Saturday—investigation is ongoing. FOX Wilmington
- ➤ Calabash Fire Department fought a fire at several travel trailers at Tommy’s RV Storage on Ash Little River Road on Saturday, battling nearly 107-degree heat + a locked gate, and they controlled the blaze in about an hour with no injuries while a fire marshal investigated a controlled burn gone wrong. - ➤ Whiteville police responded to gunshots at 332 West Hay Sawmill Apartments at 6:45 p.m. on July 18th and received a call from Columbus Regional Healthcare showing two people had been shot—one died from multiple gunshot wounds while the other was flown to another hospital in critical condition as officials continue investigating the homicide. - ➤ A 32-year-old man named Robert Koluch was arrested after leading police from Wilmington to Carolina Beach and Kure Beach in a stolen vehicle between 1:38 p.m. and 1:55 p.m. (he faces charges including assault on a law enforcement officer, larceny of a firearm, and additional offenses) and will appear in court on July 21. - ➤ Two New Hanover County commissioners, Rob Zapple and Stephanie Walker, pushed back on a plan to dissolve the Workforce Housing Advisory and Community Relations committees—a move recommended by the county manager following a major budget reduction and staff cuts.
