  • Several town parking lots in Carolina Beach are closed this week for filming by TV crews—Fisherman’s Lot at 224 Canal Drive, Shell Lot at 401 S. Lake Park Blvd, Surfside East Lot at 236 Carolina Beach Ave. N, and Surfside West Lot at 237 Carolina Beach Ave. N.  WECT

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Wilmington officials report that the area sees about 72 pedestrian crashes and 57 cyclist crashes each year and urge drivers to avoid distractions while pedestrians use sidewalks and crosswalks—actions that could reduce risks as the community grows.  WWAY

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Chef Joy’s Grocerant at 143 N. Front St. in downtown Wilmington will host a Last Call Party on July 26 at 8 p.m.—with drink specials and live music as the market closes its doors. The space has seen previous businesses, including Farmin’ on Front and Better Basket, and will liquidate its ingredients during the event.  Wilmington Star-News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Offshore wind projects off Brunswick have slowed as national and state energy policies shift, with DuKE Energy and TotalEnergies Renewables USA planning studies to see if the Long Bay wind farms—which could eventually power 750,000 homes—will move forward sooner rather than later. The future of these projects remains uncertain+ local experts say renewed political support is needed to boost clean energy efforts.  Wilmington Star-News
  • A study lasting three and a half years by NC State and UNC Chapel Hill in Carolina Beach recorded 70 flood events over 65 days and presented detailed mitigation strategies to the town council on Tuesday. The research outlines ideas such as pumps, bulkheads, canal changes and a flood barrier with estimated costs from 5 million to 50 million dollars—none of which offer a perfect fix.  Port City Daily

  • NCDOT awarded contracts to S.T. Wooten Corporation for milling, resurfacing & shoulder reconstruction work on U.S. 421 in Pender County and on N.C. 87, N.C. 133 & secondary roads in Brunswick County. Crews will begin construction as early as late summer and finish by the end of 2026.  WECT

  • Developers and Winds Ridge HOA propose The Woods at Galen, a 72-unit townhome community on a 9-acre lot at 6302 Chissom Road, pending a rezoning change to allow higher density.
